‘Swallow’ - pun intended. There’s certainly enough societal pressure for women to ‘swallow’ in their thirties. The third single from Teresa Bergman’s upcoming third album attempts to navigate the contemporary seesaw of settling down. The New Zealander openly asks the uncomfortable questions. How much freedom is really possible when one’s biological clock starts to tick progressively louder? Does our societal reality still come down to a choice between freedom and security? How strong is the normative pressure on a potential mother to also want to be one? Bergman scrutinises the unwritten laws of society and critically plays with her own stance on these life changing issues.
